Cleanse Your Space:

There are many ways to go about doing this, here are some that work for me:

One way which I believe is the most common way, is by the use of sacred smoke. Using this practice you burn a sacred herb or resin throughout your home. Some examples of these are: Common Sage, White Sage, Copal resin, Frankincense resin, Sagebrush, Juniper, Cedar, Mugwort, Palo Santo, and Lavender. If you choose to use White Sage or Palo Santo, which have both become very trendy and widely used BE AWARE OF WHERE YOU ARE PROCURING THIS FROM. These are endangered plants. Make sure you are getting any herbs from a sustainable, ethical, and eco-friendly source. I suggest before buying anything to burn in your home that you first do some research about your ancestral lineage and see if anything they used calls to you. If more than one things calls to you, you can always create a mixture of herbs for a customized personal blend. This is also a wonderful way to connect with and honor our ancestors.

REMEMBER: sacred herbs are a gift to us to use from our Mother Earth, make sure that whatever you choose is being sourced ethically and sustainably.

Once you choose your sacred smoke, begin at the doorway to your home, trace the door with the smoke and say “No unwell energy is allowed in this space, only well, healthy, healing energy is allowed in this space.” Repeat this phrase throughout your home, make sure to get to all the corners of all the rooms until you end up back where you started at the home entrance.

Follow this up by opening up the windows to let any stale or unwell energy see itself out.

If you are someone who prefers to not have smoke in their home that is absolutely ok!! You can do the same thing by using a distilled essence of any of these sacred herbs as well.

If you prefer to use none of these options, you may also say the same blessing using a broom made out of natural materials, such as grass and wood. Start at the center of the room holding the broom just above the floor, start sweeping in a counter clockwise motion making the circle larger and larger until you get to the corners of the room, repeating the same phrase as above, essentially sweeping up and out the stale or unwell energy of the space. You may also follow this by opening the windows.

Those are a few simple ways that you can cleanse or purify your space, whenever you feel the need. If you feel stagnant, or low energy, if you are going to build a new Altar, or perform a any type of ceremony, this is a great way to reset and protect your space.
